Beyond the banyan tree: A village in India. 2025, Baine, D. After many trips to India and at the end of my academic career, I conducted an anthropological study of a village in India. The outcome of the study was published in the International Journal of Educational Research. I wrote the book, Beyond the banyan tree: A village in India describing my personal experiences living in the village. The book provides insight into the daily lives of people living in that community. The book discusses aspects of Hinduism/worship, the caste system, the effects of climate change, female issues, ethnocentrism vs ethnorelativity, comparison of Western contemporary urban life vs Asian traditional rural life, and change as it affects the environment, technology, farming, education, home and family life, as well as other parts of the community.
